Report Designing and Coding:

Report Area:

Usually report consists of three general types of output lines heading.

· Head Line

· Detailed Line

· Total Line

The Heading Area:

The heading lines which form the heading area of the report, should contain data that identifies the report. Heading lines commonly includes the report title, organization name, report date and page no.

The Body Area:

The programs you have studied and written so far have included one line for each selected record these are called detailed line.

The position report is commonly called the body area.

The Footing Area:

Some reports require that for each page of the report, totals of selected columns for the page be printed at the bottom of the page.

Total Lines:

Total lines display totals of selected fields from detail lines.

Grand- total lines commonly include records counts, grade total for columns and the results of calculations such as average, percentages and so on.

The area at the bottom of a page in which page totals and grand totals are printed is called the footing area.

Report Design Guide Lines:

· Identify the report and standardize the heading identification area.

· Labels all output fields

· Position column heading properly

· Determine report width and length

· Consider margin requirements

· Make the report visually attractive

· Consider intercolumn space requirements

· Choose suitable negative value indication

· Use appropriate editing

· Use asterisks to identify total levels.
